6. About Glory
【1Cor 11:7】 A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man.
As we have seen in detail about the image of God so far, it may be helpful to examine a little more ‘glory’ in the above passage.
【1Cor 15:40-41】 There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another. The sun has one kind of splendor, the moon another and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor.
Every being has its own glory. Men have the glory of God as the head, and women have the glory as members who obey the head. But the glory of a woman is the glory of man, not the glory of God. So the apostle Paul said that women should wear a veil on their heads when they pray or prophesy.
In particular, the veil was called the “sign of angel” (1 Corinthians 11:10). A woman is not the glory of the sovereign authority, but the status of angel, so that a woman cannot be the glory of God, the chief of all.
