Chapter 2. The Importance of the Feasts in the Law of Moses
Most biblical scholars would agree that the core of the Mosaic Law is the sacrifice system. However, it is important to note that every sacrifice has to be done at the appointed time. That is, the Israelites must keep the fixed date and time to present the offering to the Lord.
【Num. 28:1-2】 The LORD said to Moses, “Give this command to the Israelites and say to them: ‘See that you present to me at the appointed time the food for my offerings made by fire, as an aroma pleasing to me.’“
In Chapter 28, and 29 of Numbes, it was recorded in detail that God commanded the Israelites to keep many kind of the appointed time, for instances, a regular burnt offering, a Sabbath burnt offering, Passover, the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the Feast of First-fruit, the Feast of Weeks, etc. We call each of those the feast.
In the law of Moses, we can find so many records about how to establish the sanctuary and make the necessaries. And there is a lot of verses how to present the burnt offering. However, since the burnt offering must be done at the sanctuary, the regulations of the sanctuary and that of the offering are considered as one legal system.
The same principle applies to the feast. Since the burnt offering must be presented to the Lord according to the appointed time, the ordinances of the feast form one law with the ordinances of the sanctuary and the burnt offering.
If you lose the feast, you don’t know the appointed time to present the sacrifice, even if you know the regulations how to do it. Furthermore, if you do not know the appointed time, the sanctuary also will be useless.
As such, the sanctuary, the sacrifice, and the feast are one law that is connected to each other. Therefore, if any of them is omitted, the Mosaic Law becomes imperfect. The sacrifice system for the forgiveness of sins results in failure.
In conclusion, if the feast is omitted, the law of God is blemished and its integrity is destroyed. The will of the Lord to fulfill through the law will be lost. Thus, no matter how much we emphasize the importance of the feast in the law of Moses, we cannot say that it is overstated.
Today, most churches value temple construction and worship, but they do not know God’s feast. The Protestant Church was born through the Reformation to restore the truth that had disappeared during the Dark Century. However, Sunday worship and Christmas are still being held as if they had biblical grounds. And none of God’s feasts are respected yet.
As you study the Mosaic Law and realize the importance of the feast, you will know how important it is in the worship of the new covenant. However, the Protestant Church still does not know the principle of the forgiveness of our sins, which is given through the heavenly sacrifice system of the blood of Jesus Christ. And we have to know that Jesus serves in the heavenly sanctuary according to the appointed time, the feasts of the Lord.
Only the church that has restored the feasts of the Lord will realize the mystery of forgiveness in the heavenly sanctuary.
